2MX2
2MX2 – Owen Trujillo, Juice E.T. Hugo, Lolita & DMD are here to represent the dualistic reality of two ancient empires, two histories, two languages, and four individuals that share a message of unity through their music.
Understanding the challenges that need to be overcome when facing our modern day conquistadors who take many forms (corporations, the food industry, politics, etc.) is key to changing our future. It often seems that we are bystanders to a story that repeats itself, but we are living proof that we can change our future by learning from our past 2MX2 is the second coming of our ancestors who are here to rewrite their story through Rhythm And Poetry (RAP).
The symbol is a derivative of the “Ollin” found in the center of the Aztec calendar, which depicts Tonatiuh the sun god. We chose to remove the skin on our Ollin to point out that beneath the skin and culture we are all human, and that the sun is a symbol of what humanity is capable of. As the years went on we began to learn more about the “Ollin” coming to the realization that we did not chose this symbol but rather it chose us.
2MX2 is a revolutionary bilingual band, masterfully blending traditional Latin, alternative, pop, and urban rhythms while seamlessly weaving English and Spanish (Spanglish) into their music. Comprised of talented individuals including Owen Trujillo (also known as O1) from Zacatecas, Denver natives Juice E. Hugo, Lolita, DMD, and Kenny O., along with Eastlin and the Chilean/Cuban artist Adrian Garay, the band carries a powerful message through their thought-provoking lyrics. Their songs fearlessly address significant social issues like immigration, mental health, and education reform, echoing their commitment to change and activism.
The band’s ethos is rooted in the dualistic reality of two ancient empires, two histories, and two languages, all represented by four individuals who share a message of unity. This foundational concept of 2MX2 highlights their understanding of the modern-day challenges posed by various modern-day conquistadors such as corporations, the food industry, and politics. They believe in the power of learning from the past to change the future, embodying the spirit of their ancestors who are here to rewrite their story through Rhythm And Poetry (RAP).
The symbol of 2MX2, derived from the “Ollin” in the center of the Aztec calendar, represents Tonatiuh, the sun god. Originally chosen to highlight the shared humanity beneath skin and culture, their continuous exploration of this symbol has led them to a deeper connection, believing that it chose them rather than the other way around. This emblem serves as a reminder of what humanity is capable of achieving when united under a common cause.
As 2MX2 continues to evolve, they remain dedicated to their craft, weaving their rich cultural heritage and potent social messages into music that not only entertains but inspires and educates. Their journey is a testament to their commitment to making a significant impact on the world through their art.
